Associations Write Congress Urging Extension of Depreciation Incentives

An ad hoc group of 77 organizations, including AMT, sent a letter to Congress urging extension of current bonus depreciation and section 179 expensing levels through 2012.

Under current law, bonus depreciation and section 179 expensing will be extended in 2012, but at a lower rate of 50-percent bonus depreciation and a lower amount of $125,000 for section 179 expensing with a $500,000 phase-out cap. In 2011, 100-percent bonus depreciation and a $500,000 amount for section 179 expensing is allowed with a phase-out cap of $2 million.
